SUA Students Benefit from Practical Training in Tour Guiding and Environmental Conservation

The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) – Mizengo Pinda Campus, in collaboration with Nomad Safari and the Watu, Simba na Mazingira (WASIMA) Organization, has enhanced the capacity of students pursuing a Certificate in Tour Guide and Hunting Operations at Mizengo Pinda Campus. This initiative aims to equip students with practical skills in tour guiding and environmental conservation.

The primary objective of this partnership is to empower students to become ambassadors for environmental conservation and the sustainable management of natural resources in Tanzania. As part of the program, eleven students and one lecturer were selected and provided with full sponsorship covering medical expenses and entry fees for a field visit to Katavi National Park. This hands-on training allows students to gain firsthand experience in conservation efforts and wildlife management.

During the field training, students learn how to assess different ecosystems and identify critical wildlife habitats based on species’ behavior and environmental conditions. Speaking on behalf of SUA, Mr. Evaristus Magani, Head of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Management, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Nomad Safari and WASIMA. He emphasized the university’s commitment to expanding partnerships with organizations, institutions, and companies involved in environmental conservation, natural resource management, and tourism in Tanzania.

This initiative aligns with SUA’s vision to provide practical, industry-relevant education that prepares students for leadership roles in environmental conservation and ecotourism.
